Artificial Intelligence needs memory. A LOT of memory. 

 

And in an era where AI is expanding like never before, it was only a matter of time before it became the primary consumer of computer storage. 

 

Our tiny electronic devices use tiny memory modules to store and access data. These modules are designed with a focus on transfer speed, with a goal of achieving faster rates, but at a smaller capacity. 

 

Artificial intelligence, on the other hand, requires high-bandwidth memory designed to move a surplus of data at once, which has a slower transfer rate but at a significantly larger capacity. 

 

The market for computer memory, however, is monopolized by a small number of manufacturers, who are slowly shifting their production priority away from consumer device memory, toward High Bandwidth Memory for AI data centers. 

 

This industry-wide shift is triggering a large-scale inflation in the consumer market, with prices rising above 400% as of 2026. 

 

This increase in price is having a profound effect on the accessibility and affordability of consumer electronic products, where prices for even the simplest digital devices are peaking at an absurd amount.
